Flaine

No train climbs to Flaine, so the road is the natural way in, and a private car is the easiest way to bring the whole family's equipment. The resort was created from scratch in an upland bowl of the Grand Massif, with architecture shaped by Marcel Breuer and slopes valued for dependable snow. Our Geneva airport ski transfer gets you there in about 1 h 10, ready to ski from the door.

Route and travel time

The private transfer from Geneva Airport to Flaine covers about 70 km and takes around 1 h 10. Your chauffeur takes the A40 motorway to the Cluses exit, then the Les Carroz road: 25 km of steady climbing through Araches-la-Frasse and Les Carroz d'Arâches, before the final hairpin section that opens onto the Flaine plateau at 1,600 m, in an enclosed bowl where the road ends.

Flaine is one of the high-altitude resorts closest to Geneva: with a morning flight you are on the slopes in the afternoon.

Flaine Forum, Flaine Forêt, Le Hameau: where to drop off

Flaine is pedestrian by design: cars stay in the car parks at the entrance and the buildings are reached on foot or by lifts and walkways.

  • Flaine Forum: the lower level, around the central square and the gondola departures, with most of the shops.
  • Flaine Forêt: the upper level, linked to the Forum by public lift, with the large residences.
  • Le Hameau de Flaine: a kilometre away by car, a group of chalets with its own road, where drop-off is at the chalet door.
  • Flaine Montsoleil and Les Terrasses d'Hélios: the newer residences above the Forum, with dedicated car parks.

Give the exact residence when booking: we drop you at the nearest car park or drop-off point, and your chauffeur helps you to the lift or the residence reception.

What the fixed price includes

The price shown before payment is for the whole vehicle, with no supplement for passengers, luggage or traffic.

  • Meet and greet in arrivals with a name board, Swiss or French sector depending on your flight.
  • Flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting time.
  • Skis, snowboards, boot bags and suitcases loaded by the chauffeur.
  • A direct journey, with no other passengers, to your residence's drop-off point.
  • Tolls, fuel and VAT included; child seats on request at no extra charge.

Which vehicle for Flaine

Flaine is a family resort: the Mercedes V-Class (7 passengers, 10 bags) is the most requested, with skis flat in the boot. For two or three, the E-Class or S-Class. For a group of 8 to 19 in a residence or club, the Sprinter is offered on quotation.

The Flaine road in winter

Between Les Carroz and Flaine the road crosses a high forest and then a plateau exposed to wind and drifting snow; it is well maintained but can be slippery during snowfall. Our Mercedes run on winter tyres with chains on board, as the Mountain Law requires in Haute-Savoie, and our chauffeurs drive up to Flaine all season. In a heavy storm the road can be briefly closed for clearing: we follow road information and keep you informed.

The Grand Massif and Flaine's architecture

Flaine is at the heart of the Grand Massif, about 265 km of pistes linked with Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval. Its north-facing bowl keeps good snow from mid-December to late April, and the Grandes Platières (2,480 m) give a head-on view of Mont Blanc. The resort was designed in the 1960s by the Bauhaus-trained architect Marcel Breuer: its listed concrete buildings and open-air artworks, including a Picasso and a Dubuffet, make it unique in the Alps.

Child seats, pushchairs and equipment

Enter your children's ages when booking: an infant carrier, child seat or booster is fitted in advance. The V-Class takes a folded pushchair and a sledge alongside the skis. If you are hiring equipment in Flaine, tell us; a smaller vehicle may be enough.

Your transfer step by step

  1. Online booking with flight number and residence name; fixed price shown before payment.
  2. The day before, you receive the chauffeur's name and phone number, and we confirm the drop-off point.
  3. On landing the time is adjusted; the chauffeur waits in arrivals.
  4. Loading, immediate departure on the A40.
  5. About 1 h 10 later, drop-off at Flaine Forum, Flaine Forêt or Le Hameau, with help carrying luggage to the lift.

No change at Cluses

Flaine has no railway station: from Cluses, 30 km of mountain road remain by local bus, skis in hand, with limited timetables outside Saturdays. A private transfer leaves at your flight's actual arrival time, makes no stops and drops you at the resort in 1 h 10, for a fixed price known in advance.

Return to Geneva and days in the Giffre valley

Book the outbound and return together: the return gets 10% off. As a chauffeur at your disposal, your driver takes you to Samoëns and its listed village, to the Fer-à-Cheval cirque at Sixt, to Les Carroz, or to Chamonix in under an hour on the A40.

Practical tips before you leave

Allow 20 minutes to reach the drop-off from the residence, more at Flaine Forêt on Saturdays when the lifts are busy. Keep ski boots in a separate bag. For an early-morning flight we wait from 5 am: the road is empty and the journey takes barely more than an hour.
