Tignes, high in the Tarentaise and linked with Val d'Isère, is known for the Grande Motte glacier and a long season on snow-sure slopes. Skiers, snowboarders and families all face the same issue: there is no direct rail link. A private chauffeur from Geneva Airport solves it, taking you and your equipment to your residence or chalet.

Route and travel time
The private transfer from Geneva Airport to Tignes covers about 220 km and takes around 2 h 40 in normal conditions. Your chauffeur leaves the airport on the A41 motorway towards Annecy, reaches Albertville on the A430, then follows the N90 up the Tarentaise valley through Moûtiers to Bourg-Saint-Maurice. The last 30 km are on the D902: the road passes the Chevril dam and its lake before reaching Tignes 1800, then Tignes le Lac and Val Claret.
Allow a little more time on Saturdays in high season, when the whole Tarentaise changes over: we build that traffic into the schedule and tell you if an earlier departure makes sense.
The villages of Tignes: tell us which one
Tignes is not one resort but five villages staggered between 1,550 and 2,100 m:
- Tignes le Lac (2,100 m): the heart of the resort around the lake, frozen in winter, with most of the residences and hotels.
- Val Claret (2,100 m): at the foot of the Grande Motte funicular, popular with skiers who want ski-in, ski-out access.
- Le Lavachet: a quieter quarter next to Le Lac, a few minutes' walk from the centre.
- Tignes 1800 (Les Boisses): the renovated village on the access road, linked to the ski area by gondola.
- Les Brévières (1,550 m): the original village below the dam, with its old chalets.
When you book, give us the village and the exact name of your residence or hotel: we prepare the drop-off address and your chauffeur does not have to search on arrival.
What the fixed price includes
The price shown before payment is for the whole vehicle, whatever the number of passengers and whatever the traffic that day.
- Meet and greet in the arrivals hall with a name board, Swiss or French sector depending on your flight.
- Flight tracking: the pick-up time follows the actual landing, with 60 minutes of free waiting time.
- Skis, snowboards, boot bags and suitcases loaded by the chauffeur.
- A direct journey, with no other passengers to drop off, to the door of your residence.
- Motorway tolls, fuel and VAT included. Child seats on request at no extra charge.
Which vehicle for Tignes
For two or three people with skis, the Mercedes E-Class is enough; the S-Class offers the same space with more comfort for 2 h 40 on the road. From four passengers, or for a family with ski equipment, the V-Class (7 passengers, 10 bags) is the right choice: skis travel flat in the boot, not on anyone's lap. Groups of up to 19 book the Sprinter on quotation, ideal for seminars and clubs renting a whole chalet in Val Claret.
The road to Tignes in winter
The D902 between Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Tignes is a genuine mountain road: a steady climb, tunnels along Lake Chevril, and sometimes ice in the early morning. Our Mercedes run on winter tyres with chains on board, and our chauffeurs drive this road several times a week from December to April. During heavy snowfall the Savoie prefecture can make equipment compulsory or close the road temporarily: we follow live road information and keep you updated on WhatsApp.
Since 2021 the French Mountain Law requires winter tyres or chains in vehicles driving in the Tarentaise between 1 November and 31 March: one concrete advantage of a private chauffeur over a hire car, which is often delivered without any winter equipment.
The ski area: Tignes – Val d'Isère
Tignes shares one of the largest ski areas in the Alps with Val d'Isère: about 300 km of pistes between 1,550 and 3,456 m, with the Grande Motte glacier reached by funicular from Val Claret. The season is one of the longest in France: opening in late November, closing in early May, plus a few weeks of summer skiing on the glacier. Exact dates change every year, so check the resort's website for your week. For a stay split between Tignes and Val d'Isère, the same chauffeur can drop you in one and collect you from the other on the way back.
Kids, pushchairs and equipment
Enter the number and age of your children in the booking form: an infant carrier, child seat or booster is fitted before you arrive. With a baby, plan a stop: the chauffeur can pause in Albertville or Bourg-Saint-Maurice at no change to the price. Ski equipment travels in the boot; if you are hiring in the resort, tell us, as a smaller vehicle may then be enough.
Seminars, clubs and shared chalets
For a group of 8 to 19 people, the Sprinter (20 bags, ski compartment) leaves the airport as a single vehicle. Larger groups are split across several cars that depart together and arrive together. We can invoice your company or club, with the invoice made out in its name.
Your transfer step by step
- You book online with your flight number, village and residence; the fixed price is shown before payment.
- The day before, you receive your chauffeur's name and phone number.
- On landing we adjust the time; the chauffeur waits in arrivals with a name board.
- Skis and luggage are loaded and you leave immediately.
- 2 h 40 later you are dropped at the door of your residence in Tignes, with help for the bags.
No change at Bourg-Saint-Maurice
The train goes no further than Bourg-Saint-Maurice: you then need a bus or taxi for the last 30 km, with skis on the platform at each change. Shared shuttles stop at several other Tarentaise resorts and can add an hour. A Geneva taxi on the meter depends on traffic and weather. A private transfer costs a fixed price known in advance, takes you to your door without changing and adapts to your flight delay.
Return to Geneva and days in Val d'Isère
Book the outbound and return together: the return journey gets 10% off and we advise on the departure time according to your flight and the day of the week. For a Saturday in February we often suggest leaving earlier and enjoying the airport lounges rather than the queue at Moûtiers. As a chauffeur at your disposal, we also take you to Val d'Isère for a day, or to Bourg-Saint-Maurice for an appointment.
Practical tips before you leave
Allow 20 minutes for loading skis at the residence, and keep ski boots in a separate bag so the boot stays clean. If you hired equipment, return it the evening before. For an early-morning flight we can leave at night: the road is then clear and the journey often takes less than 2 h 30.
