Avoriaz

Reaching Avoriaz means arriving in a village where cars stop at the gate. Built on a cliff above Morzine in the Portes du Soleil, the resort is known for its timber façades and residences you can ski straight out of, and children can roam its streets safely. Our private ski transfer from Geneva Airport brings you to the entrance car parks, where a snow taxi or sleigh completes the trip.

Route and travel time

The private transfer from Geneva Airport to Avoriaz covers about 95 km and takes around 1 h 30. Your chauffeur takes the A40 motorway towards Mont Blanc, exits at Cluses, drives through Taninges and Les Gets, descends to Morzine and then tackles the Avoriaz road: 14 km of hairpins and 800 metres of climb to the plateau at 1,800 m. In clear weather the view over the Morzine valley and the Dents du Midi opens up in the last bends.

It is one of the major resorts closest to Geneva: a morning flight lets you ski the same afternoon.

Avoriaz, a car-free resort: how drop-off works

Avoriaz is entirely pedestrian. Vehicles stop at the entrance to the resort, at the car parks and the reception drop-off zone. From there your luggage travels to the residence by horse-drawn sleigh or snowcat, a service run by the resort, while you cover the few hundred metres to your accommodation on foot or by sleigh. Allow an extra 15 to 30 minutes depending on Saturday crowds.

Two alternatives exist: drop-off at the Prodains cable car down in the valley on the Morzine side, which rises to Avoriaz in a few minutes and suits residences in the Dromonts quarter; and, for the Amara or Crozats residences, drop-off at the car park closest to your quarter. Give the exact residence name when booking and we choose the most convenient drop-off point with you.

What the fixed price includes

The price shown before payment is for the whole vehicle, with no supplement for passengers, luggage or traffic.

  • Meet and greet in arrivals with a name board, Swiss or French sector depending on your flight.
  • Flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting time.
  • Skis, snowboards, boot bags and suitcases loaded by the chauffeur.
  • A direct journey, with no other passengers, to the Avoriaz drop-off point or to Les Prodains.
  • Tolls, fuel and VAT included; child seats on request at no extra charge.

Luggage transport inside the resort is provided by Avoriaz and paid on the spot.

Which vehicle for Avoriaz

For two or three with skis, the Mercedes E-Class or S-Class. With a family or from four passengers, the V-Class (7 passengers, 10 bags). For a shared chalet or a group of 8 to 19, the Sprinter is offered on quotation; it reaches the Avoriaz car parks without difficulty.

The Avoriaz road in winter

The 14 km between Morzine and Avoriaz are a classic mountain road, well cleared but exposed to ice and sometimes fog. Our Mercedes run on winter tyres with chains on board, as the Mountain Law requires in Haute-Savoie, and our chauffeurs drive up to Avoriaz every week from December to April. If the road is closed temporarily during heavy snowfall, drop-off at Les Prodains remains possible.

The Portes du Soleil from Avoriaz

Avoriaz sits at the centre of the Portes du Soleil, the Franco-Swiss ski area of about 600 km of pistes across twelve resorts: Morzine, Les Gets, Châtel, Montriond, Saint-Jean-d'Aulps, La Chapelle-d'Abondance and Abondance on the French side; Champéry, Morgins, Torgon, Val-d'Illiez and Les Crosets on the Swiss side. From Avoriaz you ski into Switzerland over the Pas de Chavanette or towards Châtel via Lindarets. The resort, built in the 1960s with its shingle-clad façades, is also known for the Stash, its tree-top park, and for a long season from early December to late April.

Child seats, pushchairs and equipment

Enter your children's ages when booking: an infant carrier, child seat or booster is fitted in advance. A folded pushchair fits in the V-Class alongside the skis, and can prove useful on the resort's snowy walkways. If you are hiring equipment in Avoriaz, tell us: a smaller vehicle may be enough.

Your transfer step by step

  1. Online booking with flight number and residence name; fixed price shown before payment.
  2. The day before, you receive the chauffeur's name and phone number, and we confirm the drop-off point.
  3. On landing the time is adjusted; the chauffeur waits in arrivals.
  4. Loading, immediate departure on the A40.
  5. About 1 h 30 later, drop-off at Avoriaz reception or Les Prodains, with help moving luggage to the sleigh or cable car.

No change at Cluses or Thonon

No railway station serves Avoriaz: you would get off at Cluses or Thonon-les-Bains and then take one or two buses to Morzine and Avoriaz, skis in hand. A private transfer leaves at your flight's actual arrival time, makes no stops and drops you at the resort entrance in 1 h 30, for a fixed price known in advance.

Return to Geneva and days in Morzine

Book the outbound and return together: the return gets 10% off. For departure we agree a meeting time at the drop-off point and your chauffeur is there early; allow time for the resort to bring your luggage down. As a chauffeur at your disposal, your driver takes you to Morzine for the Wednesday market, to Lake Montriond, or to Thonon and Évian on the shore of Lake Geneva.

Practical tips before you leave

Book luggage transport from the residence to the car park with the resort the day before, and allow 30 minutes' margin on Saturdays. Keep ski boots in a separate bag. For an early-morning flight we wait at the drop-off point from 5 am: the Morzine road is clear and the journey often takes under 1 h 20.
